CE-QUAL using GPU

Is there any chance of the model being adapted to use the GPU to try and reduce run times? Increasing the number of processors makes no difference to run times (currently 2.4 Ghz i5 10200H with SSD drive) I have found myself doing long time-period simulations (over 10 years) for multiple algal groups and as expected it is very cumbersome. This is mainly due to low resolution data collection but the overall water quality trends predicted are still very good

Time series withdrawal

It's not possible, on the post processor, to select over 10 elements to generate the time series for the selected parameter from the water body. This complicates the data analysis, knowing that it might be necessary (for me is always needed) to export the time series for all the elements that compose the reservoir.. It would save a lot of time if the post processor exported, for exemple, the data for each segment at a time. Sofia

Suspended solids settling rates (SSS)

The Suspended solids settling rate is in m day-1. But in reality the settling is extensively dependent on flow characteristics. I used the model for simulating a flooding event. The flow starts from 100 m3/s and get a peak of 5200 m3/s. By using a m/day concept the model underestimate the TSS during the flood and overestimate before flooding. I believe the model would perform better if the SSS calculated based of flow. Something similar to temperature rates adjustments curves.

Model grid/Bathymetry question/wish

I am not sure if it can be applicable, or worth it, regarding the numerical scheme of the model (2-D, laterally averaged) but here is my wish: - Adjusting the layer widths and the segment orientation in the model grid, representative bathymetries of the water bodies/branches modeled are created, with the main assumption of the thalweg being the centerline crossing the every segment. In future versions, could any desired segment(s) be shifted up or down in the axis normal to the centerline/flow direction (with the different, defined amounts for each layer) so that we could create more representative cross sections, thus bathymetries without refining the segment and layer sizes further?

ALGAE-WEIR-RESTART

Currently I use Ver.3.72. 1) I know how to use RESTART option. However, I could not figure out how to get the big, specific output files for AGPM or W2-Post for the run starting from RESTART point. When I run the model by using the executable(s) of AGPM or CE-QUAL-W2, the model creates those big files for the first phase/run (before RESTART) only. So far I could not manage to have those files belonging to the second phase/run (after RESTART). Even if it seems those files are created (for the second phase/run), outputs of those files belong to the first phase only. Is there a way to do it? If not, that's my first wish in my list. 2) In the current model, we can define the pump period through the model run period. I wish the same option would be available for WEIRS/curtains. 3) We can define/simulate different ALGAE species with different rates and parameters in the current model. However, when we have more than one waterbody, we are not able to define different ALGAE species specific to each waterbody. Depending on the sceanrio, there may be several solutions to this in the current model involving more than one model run but can this feature be added to the model code so this (diff. ALGAE species for each waterbody) can be achieved in just one model run?

Is there a way to add images (e.g. a graph of model output) to this forum when writing a question? Have I just missed it, being a newbie to the forum? Sometimes a picture says (or saves) a thousand words....... especially when we are not too good at explaining the technical details. Thanks

Compiling source files

Hi, I made a couple of edits to the source code for version 3.6, and when I tried to build the the executable, a realized that I'm missing the file "Resource.fd." The code calls for the file. Is there a way I can get it? Or is it somewhere that I don't realize? Thanks, -Christina UMass Amherst

A problem with the flow boundary condition in the Upstream Boundary

I am running the version 3.5 of the model. I want to introduce the flow boundary condition in the upstream. To do this I set the UHS = 0 in the control file and introduce the flow file as "qin.npt" but the model can not read the flow rates in the file and set the flow rates equal to zero.
