segment distance" and "layer height"

Hi I want to model a river/reservoir system. For the bathymetry I only have the topography. I wanted to know that what shall I take as "segment distance" and "layer height". Is there a limit for them? What is the critical distance and height for the model to work properly. Hooman [addsig]

Hooman There is no limit on DLX and DZ - but there are model computational issues associated with choosing a DLX and DZ. The model computed internal time step is a function of DLX and DZ - small DLX and DZ result in small model DLT (time step) and thus long run times. In developing the bathymetry start with a fine resolution from which you can always coarsen to see if the model answer will change. Most important is that you do not want your grid to affect the model solution. The User manual has good advice on setting up the grid. Scott[addsig]
