no active segments

Hi, when I run my model (1 branch with 16 segments, 17 layers, no slope) the pre-processor gives me an error, that my branch has no active segments. I have checked my bathymetry and it looks good (W2Control36.exe). But if I run the model (w2_ivf.exe), no initial conditions are given (NaN) - but the vpr.npt is correctly. The pre-processor-output file show me an initial temperature of 0°C although in the vpr.npt the temperature is given (5°C). What are the reasons for "no active segments" in a branch? What do I have to bear in mind? Thanks for help. Regards from Germany. Michi

Hi Michi, Have you tried setting the initial temperature to a isothermal value (say 5 degrees Celsius) to see if the model still goes unstable? This would let us know whether the problem has to do with your initial temperature file (vpr.npt). Another possibility is that the initial water surface is set too low, causing the model to subtract all the model segments - but I suspect you've check for this already. My guess is that the model is going unstable, predicts a very low number for water surface elevation, and then subtracts the segments because the water surface elevation is below the bottom of the segments. If your model is going unstable, you might try reducing the maximum time step to see if this helps. Chris

Hi Chris, you're right. The water surface was under the bottom layer of my last segment (with only 2 layers). Expected I have to change my bathymetry. Thank you for helping me. Michi
