Zero & first order SOD

Hi. I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. Under what conditions would you recommend using the first order SOD function rather than the Zero order? Can they be used together or does one or the other have to be used? For example, can the zero order be used to supply a constant year round base level of SOD inherent in the sediment while the first order is used to "add on" the seasonably variable effects of increased algae production on SOD? Jon I usually do what you mentioned - use them both where the zero order is 'historical background' and then accumulate recently deposited labile organics as 1st order... Scott[addsig]
