Monimolimnion with CE-QUAL-W2?

Is it possible to model a monimolimnion with W2? Are there any problems with numerical dispersion? Are there publications about this?[addsig]
Forums:

Absolutely. There should be no problems with numerical dispersion. Take a look at the manual. There are numerous examples of the model's abiliity to reproduce very complex temperature profiles. The fact that density differences are also affected by TDS won't change the model's ability to reproduce stratification as the model uses density differences in the baroclinic term where density is a function of temperature, TDS, and ISS. So long as you get the concentration of TDS and/or ISS correct, the model will reproduce stratification. The model has reproduced density flows that are a function of ISS in Lake Mead and Lake Powell. The model has been used successfully on numerous estuaries. I do not know of any meromictic reservoirs or lakes that it has been used on.[addsig]
