Windows XP woes

I have recently installed QUAL-W2 on two machines. One is running W2K, and the other XP. It works fine in the W2K machine, but W2control does not function properly with XP. After installation in the XP machine, W2control wouldn´t even start due to the absence of the COMCTL32.OCX file from the windows\system32 directory. After installing the VB6.0 Common Controls update (Q896559) available from Microsoft, W2control starts. However, when I attempt to open a file, the file selection window does not pop up, and W2control displays a blank "file" screen, i.e., it behaves as if an empty file had been opened.
