Generation of daily WSC of each segment based on wind direct

Hi I would like to generate wind sheltering coefficients (WSC) on daily basis of each segment based on wind direction and topography. Is it legitimate to do so and is there any suggestion? Vijay[addsig]

Vijay, Yes, you can do this. Note that in the wind-sheltering input file (typically called wsc.npt), you can specify a wind-sheltering coefficient for each segment for a given Julian date. You can generate the segment by segment time-varying wind sheltering coefficients in a spreadsheet or write a program to read in the wind direction and topography and then output computed wind-sheltering coefficients. The model does have a dynamic shading algorithm that has all the topographic and canopy information built into it. You could probably use that as a starting point and substitute wind sheltering for solar radiation shading. Be advised that this is probably overkill and may or may not have anything to do with reality unless you have data to check your generated numbers against. This really ought to be a research topic. Tom, Thanks! I have data to check and doing it as part of my Ph.D. dissertation. I will post the results once finished. Thanks again. Vijay [addsig]

Vijay, Where are you located? This is research that has been needed to be done for a long time. I'm glad someone is getting around to doing it. Tom[addsig]

Tom, I am working with the Ecological Engineering Group (Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering) at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. My dissertation topic is "Interpretation, integration and evaluation of remote sensing in lake water quality modeling". Vijay [addsig]

Vijay, Here's something that would be very valuable. Now that the weather stations have stopped taking cloud cover, come up with a way to determine a cloud cover equivalent at night. Tom[addsig]

Tom, Atmospheric visibility is one of the metrological data, which is measured and used in atmospheric correction of remote sensing images. I hope that this parameter can work as a surrogate for cloud cover. I can give a try. May I contact you at your email for some of my doubts? Thanks! Vijay [addsig]

Vigay, No problem contacting me. Tom[addsig]
