Cloud Cover question

The examples of meteorology input files have a value of 0 - 10 for total cloud cover for each day (where 10 = total cloud cover all day). However, I have hour by hour cloud cover data that is expressed as eighths of the sky covered (0 = clear, 8 = total cloud cover for that hour). How do you recommend that I handle this? Should I convert the hourly cloud cover data(in eights) into a 0-10 value for the entire day or should I put in the hourly cloud cover data as often as I input the other hourly weather data?
