Generating bth.npt file

Dear All, I am new to CE-QUAL-W2, and trying to generate bth.npt file. I understand WMS and AGPM can be used to generate this file for reservoir. E.g. WMS uses elevation - volume curve method to generate segment widths for different depth. My questions:
  • what to do with sloping riverine system. The elevation - volume curve method may not be appliable, since it relies on cells are vertical, not perpendicular to the sloping direction. Then how can I generate one bth.npt file for sloping river system?
  • When do I have to use a slope for each branch? e.g. my average slope is 3 X 10-4 along the river, can I use flat bottom instead of a slope?
Thanks for your reply, Hailiang

I have a similar problem. Did you find your answer? please comment it for me too. How can I sure my bathymetry has been calibrated? thank you, Mostafa

I am working with CE-QUALW2 to characterise the water quality variability in Vaal Dam and I am experiencing some challenges; I am requesting for your assistance. My objective is to produce vertical profiles of water quality parameters at the intake point in the reservoir. I have used Watershed Modelling System(WMS) software to develop the bathymetry and create the control file successfully, however when I try to open the control file in CE-QUALW2 it no longer contains any of the data that I would have input and it cannot open the bathymetry file. I have searched the CE-QUALW2 manual but it is not clear how the input files should be created to be read in W2_Control in order to run the model. If you could assist with any ideas from your experience in using the model or recommend any literature that would help with this problem I would be most grateful.

Hi, Watershed Modelling System create control file and bth file for older version of CE-QUALW2. You must correct these files for new version of CE-QUAL-W2. I think, that in the Bth file absent MANNINGS/FRICTION section. Jirka

Thank you Jirka. Please explain what you mean by correcting the files and how do I do that?

Hi, i think that the best way to correcting file is open this in any texteditor and compare with bth file which is in example directory. In corrected bth file must be this section: Segment length [DLX]; Water surface elevation [ELWS]; Segment orientation [PHI0]; Bottom friction [FRICT]; Layer height [H]; Segment 1 widths; Segment 2 widths;...
