Model warm-up time

Hello, I am JC and am making the ce-qual-w2 model for the reservoir in Korea. Actually, I already made a model and did calibration and validation of the result. But, one thing makes me curious. CBOD result showed extremely decrease for first short period and then it was to be stable. In order to solve this problem, I think the model warm-up period would be needed. But I don't know how to do it. The model ran from 2010 to 2012 with measured data set. I want to have model warm up period of 2 month before the start day. Is there any solution for the problem?? If you know, please let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi JC. The model warm up depends on the size of the reservoir you are modeling. In a small reservoir it can be one day or up to several weeks for large water-bodies. One good practice is by starting your model in early spring (March- April). This gives you a much more homogeneous conditions in the lake. In many regions (for shallow lakes) all the reservoir have very well mixed at this time. So you have a better representation of initial conditions and smaller warm up period.
