sediment area for SOD

Hello, How is the sediment area determined for application of a zero-order SOD rate? Is it simply the surface area of the lake/reservoir or is the slope of the bottom taken into account? Thanks, Vickie Singleton Virginia Tech

Vickie, To calculate zeroth order SOD the model uses the sediment area of each model layer. W2 considers only horizontal area available, and not the vertical sides of a layer. For a specific model segment the cumulative horizontal sediment area of the layers would be equivalent to the water surface area of that segment. hope this helps, chris
